How we built this table
The MTA publishes Metro-North's timetable as a GTFS data feed, the same schedule data used by trip planning apps. We took the weekday schedule for 2026-10-13, kept every direct train that leaves a Connecticut station for Grand Central between 5:00 and 8:59 AM and measured the scheduled time from that station to Grand Central. The table shows the fastest and slowest of those trains, the median and how many left between 6:00 and 8:59 AM. The method matches our research team's independent check of the same feed. When Metro-North changes its timetable we re-run the same script, so the table stays tied to the schedule in force.
What the table does not show
- Door to door time. Add the drive or walk to the station, the time to park and the walk or subway ride from Grand Central to your office.
- Parking. Station parking permits in several Fairfield County towns have long waitlists. Ask the town's parking authority before you choose a home based on a station.
- Reliability. These are scheduled times. Delays, track work and service changes are not reflected.
- Transfers. Branch-line trips that need a change at Stamford, South Norwalk or Bridgeport are not counted, which understates service on the branches.
Pair this table with the guide to commuting to NYC from Connecticut, which covers tickets, parking and driving and with the town guides, which show each town's stations alongside taxes and housing.
Common questions
What is the fastest train from Connecticut to Grand Central?
On Metro-North's published schedule for Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the fastest scheduled morning ride from a Connecticut station was 44 minutes from Greenwich. Stamford had the most direct morning trains, 35 leaving between 5:00 and 8:59 AM, with rides of 50 to 70 minutes1. Express and local trains differ a lot, so check the specific train.
What do the range and median mean in this table?
The range runs from the fastest to the slowest scheduled ride among all direct trains that leave the station for Grand Central between 5:00 and 8:59 AM on the weekday we analyzed. The median is the middle value: half the trains are faster and half are slower. It does not include the drive to the station, parking or the walk from Grand Central.
Why do Danbury and Waterbury branch stations show so few trains?
Most branch trains run as shuttles that connect with main-line trains, so the trip involves a transfer. This table counts only direct trains, so it understates how many ways there are to make the trip. Use the MTA trip planner to see connecting options.
